We finally arrived at our cross-country destination this afternoon - just in time to drop Jacob off at the Crowne Plaza in San Jose and have dinner in Japantown, one of only three such remaining communities in the United States. On our way into San Jose we also visited my paternal grandmother's grave site. She and my grandfather moved here in 1967 to be near my great aunt and uncle. As many of you know, there is a lot to see and do in this area. We plan to visit Santa Cruz tomorrow and the San Francisco area on Saturday. The last three days have been spent off the beaten path in the Sierra Mountains near Weldon, California visiting the Sequoia National Forest. Jeremy and I even caught a few rapids on the mighty Kern River. We will attend opening worship at the General Assembly on Sunday morning, sit in on a little of the business meetings at the beginning of the week, and then head back across our beautiful country. Jacob will stay behind and catch a flight home on Saturday. By the way, some of you have inquired - the most expensive gasoline has been $4.79 per gallon purchased a few days ago near Lake Isabella, California. Again, Jeremy will assist me in sending a few photos of our most recent adventures. I will post a few more blogs in the next few days and on our trip en-route to St. Marys concerning the actions of the 218th General Assembly. Please remember to NOT rely solely upon what you read in the media about what the Presbyterians are doing out here. As always, you have voting commissioners, delegates and observers "on the scene" who will provide you with a first hand report once we return.
We miss you all!

Your youngest just set up his own blog. I'm not posting anything though...just going to comment on yours and Jacob's.
Rick,
Glad that you have had such a wonderful "journey" to the Assembly. I pray that you will not only encounter God in the beauty of nature along the way, but in the challenge of passionate faith and conversation as we seek to connect God and neighbor through the guidance of a "reforming" Spirit.
Steve
What beauty. God's creations are amazing. Enjoy. Be inspired. Oh! And relax. That swing looks inviting.
