THIS WEEK AT FPC SAINT MARYS!

Welcome Jess! Jessica Hauser-Brydon is a candidate for ordination in the PCUSA and is currently under care of the Presbytery of New Brunswick, NJ. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Jessica has spent the last four years living on St. Simons Island, where her husband Troy is an Associate Pastor at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. She currently balances her time between volunteering at church, maintaining a private violin and viola studio, and caring for (chasing around) her three young children. She is excited to be in worship with the St. Mary's community this Labor Day weekend!

STEPHEN MINISTRY...We have 16 church leaders registered for the Stephen Ministry course: Discovering a Vision for Your Life: You and Your Spiritual Gifts which will be offered for eight weeks beginning this Tuesday September 6. The class will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. each night and will last one hour each night. It has been said that every Christian has a least one spiritual gift that has been un-tapped. Please remember your Elders, Stephen Ministers, Sunday School teachers, and Presbyterian Women leaders who will be engaged in this learning experience.

Mission Trip… Come and join us Sept 18-24. Your Outreach Committee is coordinating a “hands-on” mission trip to Tuscaloosa AL in response to the devastating effects of the recent tornadoes. The only requirement is a willingness to serve God in a very special way. Mission Team Leaders, Jim and Barbara Conner are ready to sign YOU up today!

Church-Wide Picnic Coming Soon! Save the dates! It’s a church-wide picnic and retreat on Saturday October 8 at Crooked River State Park. The FPC Caravaners will also be RV camping that weekend Oct 7-9. Two-bedroom cottages and tent sites are also available (call 882-5256 for reservations)

MS 150 BIKE RIDE...Elder Chuck Fulton, along with Mark and Winston Rector, will be participating in the “MS150 Ride for a Cure” on Saturday, October 1. This ride benefits those who are afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and seeks to raise funds for research and care of the victims of this debilitating disease. Their goal this year is to raise $1000 each. If you are interested in making a tax-deductable donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, please contact Chuck at 729-8184 or Mark at 576-1640.

Montreat… We still have room! There is not a more beautiful place in the east than the Blue Ridge Mountains when the leaves begin to turn colors in the fall. Total cost will be $200 for the week which will include lodging, and breakfasts. The itinerary has been finalized which includes an evening at the Flatrock Playhouse Theatre where we will see The Buddy Holly Story. Please see Pastor Rick if you would like to attend.
New Members… Several people have indicated a desire to join the church in recent months. A special meeting of the Session to receive new members will be held following both worship services on Sunday, September 11. Joining a Presbyterian church is by affirmation of faith, re-affirmation of faith, or by transfer of church membership.

GREAT CROWDS AT WNL! BIG MESSY ART will be on the agenda for several more weeks to come for kids age 3 thru 5th grade following supper which begins at 5:15 p.m. The FPC Youth Group also meets after supper with Amy Kinson and they are currently planning their fall calendar of events. The adult class is studying the book How to Read the Bible in Changing Times (see article below). Ms. Monica is cooking for us again and the food is WONDERFUL! If you are not currently on our reservation list for supper, please call the church office by noon on Monday (882-4650) to make your reservation. See you at Wednesday Night LIVE!

WNL Adult Study Continues… Many find it difficult to take words that were written thousands of years ago and apply them to twenty-first-century life in the Western world. How do we read God's unchanging Word in a world that is increasingly defined by change? How to Read the Bible in Changing Times (Mark Strauss) shows everyday Christians how to interpret and apply the Scriptures regardless of time and culture. Rather than seeing the Bible as a magic answer book, a list of commands to obey, or a series of promises to claim, this insightful book allows the Bible to retain its identity as a complex, inspired document while showing that the truth it contains is relevant and life-changing. It shows the reader how to determine the meaning of the text in its original context. COME JOIN US EACH WED NIGHT AFTER SUPPER - 6:15 PM IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL.
