A Divided World United
"In that renewal there is no longer Greek or Jew...barbarian...slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!"
Colossians 3
I went home for lunch today and turned on the television and there it was again..evidence! It was yet another reminder that we live in such a divided world. Black and white, rich and poor, Palestinian and Jew, Christian and Muslim, and yes... Democrat and Republican! And the political division seems to be endless in these days of debt ceiling deliberations.
I am convinced that far too often we drawn to how different we are to the point where we begin to wonder if we will ever be able to unify the human race.
Yet, the spark of individuality in each and every person unites us in such a beautiful way if we could only see it and somehow celebrate it. That individuality is truly a gift from God and a reminder to me of God's presence in the world. This morning I read the passage above from Colossians and it caused me to think that no matter who we are, Christ is in us. There are numerous ways to count our differences but the one way in which we are the same is that the presence of Christ is in us. This is the blessing of being human, and it is the blessing given to every human being regardless of race, class, ethnicity, religion, or political party!
