Making Room for God

This has been a week of revelation for for me. An earlier blog post (October 22) reflected on a wonderful experience I had at our weekly Breakfast Club with middle school kids at Hardee's on Wednesday morning. Today I was invited to speak at the St. Marys Middle School Fellowship of Christian Athletes gathering. About 100 students and teachers showed up BEFORE school to begin their day with God's Word. I am simply amazed and grateful to God for the way in which our young people in this community are being reached and touched by God's presence - in a context and within a system that is often very challenging. This morning, Coach Willie Spears greeted me warmly and escorted me to the "worship space" that the FCA leadership team had already set up. I remarked what a blessing it was that they (the gathered congregation) had intentionally decided to make room for God early on a Friday morning. I shared with them the message from Proverbs 2:1-6 where King Solomon could have asked God for just about anything when he was crowned King of Israel but the thing he asked for was wisdom. In Proverbs 2:1-6 we learn from that wisdom and how we can make room for God in our lives - by listening, seeing, feeling, speaking, and doing! In many ways I was "preaching to the choir" today. Many of these young people already "get it" and I thank God for each one of them and for the dedicated leadership of people like Willie Spears, Brad Tippens and others who are sacrificially giving their time and energy to the spiritual well being of our kids. Thanks be to God!
