The Child to be born will be HOLY!
The wonderful exchange between Mary and the angel Gabriel in the Gospel text this week has always fascinated me. Our living nativity is tomorrow night and it reminds me that I must search for the recorded CD I did a few years ago to see if it contains this portion of the nativity narrative. These beautiful words express God's pure and simple gift to Mary: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God" (1:35). You might say that within this single verse, the very essence of the Christian faith in a triune God is right here. "God in three persons" are present in the One we confess as "the Most High," in Jesus Christ "the Son of God," and the overshadowing and abiding presence of "the Holy Spirit." Therefore it appears that my early ponderings as I plan to preach this week are leading me to expound upon our triune nature. The question is: Do you think I can pull it out again in June and preach it on Trinity Sunday?

If you preach it again in June, wouldn't that be "double dipping?" If you do that with someone else's drink, you may catch mono. I guess that would be OK for a trinitarian view of "mono" theistic believers?
